Almost Equivalent Replacement of 20-yr-old Unit

This microwave replaced a very similar GE Space Saver over-the-range microwave which provided 20+ years of service flawlessly. Unfortunately, a service call and replacement of diode or magneto would cost more than the on-sale price of the new microwave. This microwave is not quite as 'stylish' (square edges, rather than rounded edges), is larger inside, but has a smaller (13-inch vs 13.5-inch previously) 'lazy susan' plate. It functions excellently. The clock provides bright white night-light quality.

Previously owned GE Profile, lasted 19 yrs. From previous reviews of current manufactured microwaves, the lifespan maybe 1-4 yrs. so I also purchased a 5 yr warranty and a 10 yr magnetron warranty as well. The new microwave sounds lighter in structure, but louder when door is closed. It seems to heat faster than my other one even thou the wattage is the same. This one has the ablility to turn off the turntable and also has an additional 30 second button, both which can be handy. We had it installed to the outside vent as the last one. SInce I have only had a week, I have no complaints thus far.

This replaced our similar GE microwave we bought in 2004. I loved the old one and hope this one will be as durable as the old one. Best of all, the hanger from the old one that was on our wall was the exact same dimensions as the new one, so we were able to use it to hook the new one on.

Great Product except for one flaw

I love my microwave. It's easy to use and clean. Except for one flaw the handle broke. It broke off at the top. It's cracked just below the handle support bracket. So I have to replace the bracket as well as the handle itself. My issue is after some research I see so many have had this problem. So frustrating to deal with this. I know it doesn't make sense to purchase from GE since parts are more expensive For their price I can buy a New Micowave. The handle broke after the warrenty too. Still I feel if it's a defect and issue for so many they need to come up with a better design. I usually don't write reviews. I like GE products vs. other companies. However did want some to be aware thjis may happen as it did to myself and others.

Looks and sound

The new microwave matches the white GE stove I put in 20 years ago. Looks beautiful. But I hate the sound of when you open and close the door. Very tiny and I hope it wont break. I only own it two week and use it many times a day. Here's hoping that it will be no problem. But it works perfectly now. Fingers crossed.

We bought the same microwave about 2 years ago and it died. We were told replacing the needed part would cost almost as much as a new microwave so we opted to buy the new one (same exact model). Our salesman said this particular microwave usually lasts longer and we must have just gotten a lemon. We were told we could pick it up at the store and I could install it myself by fastening it to the original bracket from the first model. Sounded easy enough. Unfortunately GE changed a few things on the newer microwave so it didn't fit on the bracket. Long story short … we had to pay to have the microwave installed.
